Your First Visit<\/h1>\n

During your first visit a full history will be <\/span>taken including details of your main <\/span>complaint, your medical history and your <\/span>lifestyle. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Examination of your pulse and tongue is an important part of the consultation and provides vital information about what is going on inside your body.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most treatments will involve acupuncture, <\/span>but may also include moxibustion, electro <\/span>acupuncture, tui na massage, cupping, or <\/span>ear seeds, depending on your condition. <\/span>There is no extra charge for these. You <\/span>may also be given dietary or lifestyle <\/span>advice or prescribed patent herbal <\/span>medicine. <\/span><\/p>\n

The most commonly used acupuncture <\/span>points are located on the lower leg and <\/span>lower arm and so in many cases there will <\/span>be no need to undress for treatment. <\/span><\/p>\n

All proposed treatments will be explained <\/span>to you and your consent will be requested <\/span>before any procedures are carried out. <\/span>You should allow an hour and a half for <\/span>your first visit, with follow-up treatments <\/span>lasting from 45 minutes to an hour. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Only sterilised, single-use\u00a0needles are used. Patent herbal medicines are\u00a0obtained from regulated suppliers who use\u00a0only permitted herbs. How long will treatment <\/span>take?<\/span><\/h2>\n

The number of visits required depends on <\/span>
many factors such as the severity of your <\/span>
complaint, how long you have had it, and <\/span>
whether your lifestyle aggravates your <\/span>
condition. <\/span><\/p>\n

It is also true that some people respond to <\/span>
the treatment better than others, and this <\/span>
is not fully understood. Recent research <\/span>
has shown, however, that whether or not <\/span>
you ‘believe’ in the treatment has no <\/span>
influence on its effectiveness. <\/span><\/p>\n

Often there can be improvements after <\/span>
only one treatment, but usually, especially <\/span>
where the condition is a long-standing one, <\/span>
it can take a course of treatments to bring <\/span>
about lasting benefits. Progress is often <\/span>
gradual: acupuncture has been shown to <\/span>
have a cumulative effect and the benefits <\/span>
build up over time with more treatments. It <\/span>
is unlikely that a long-term problem is <\/span>
going to disappear with just one session. <\/span><\/p>\n

A course of treatment might involve <\/span>weekly sessions for six to ten weeks, <\/span>tailing off to fortnightly or monthly sessions <\/span>and then occasional ‘top-ups’. For many <\/span>people, regular acupuncture treatments <\/span>become part of their routine, to keep them <\/span>well once imbalances have been <\/span>corrected. <\/span><\/p>\n

To begin with, we would recommend you <\/span>have at least three treatments to give it a <\/span>reasonable chance, and then see if you <\/span>feel you have made enough progress to <\/span>carry on with treatment. If you do not feel <\/span>you are getting enough out of the <\/span>treatment we will not encourage you to <\/span>carry on. <\/span><\/p>\n

Missed appointments<\/strong>

Reluctantly, we have taken the decision to
charge for missed first appointments, in
certain circumstances. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When a patient fails to turn up for an
appointment without good reason, there is a
lack of consideration, both for other
patients who may have wanted that
appointment time, and for the practitioner
who will have spent some considerable time
preparing for the consultation.<\/p>\n

Therefore a charge of \u00a340 will be made to
patients who fail to attend, if they do not
get in touch to let us know the
circumstances and do not respond to any
attempts we make to get in touch with
them.<\/p>\n

We are located just off the Chester High Road,\u00a0about half a mile from the Gayton roundabout and\u00a010 minutes from Junction 4 M53. <\/span><\/p>\n
